Our Story

The Family Behind
Ashton Creek Vineyard

At Ashton Creek, the art of winemaking is a revered family affair. The Thibault family patriarch spent decades in aviation, exploring wine and viticulture during his travels around the world alongside Ashton Creek's soon-to-be, first-generation winemaker, Alan Thibault. Blending their entrepreneurial and artisanal spirits, the Thibaults planted their first vines in 2006 on the 9 acres along Route 1 that we now call home, and thus began the journey of crafting exceptional wines and experiences to share with our community and beyond.

APRIL 2015, BARN CONSTRUCTION

10 years later in the Fall of 2016, we opened our Tasting Room doors and have enjoyed every minute since. Our grounds are a place to unwind, connect, and celebrate all of life's moments over wines of unique distinction that represent our place in Virginia Wine Country and the people that make Ashton Creek, Ashton Creek. Whether it be the paw prints on our patio or bottles lovingly named after the Thibault matriarch or winemaker's wife, you'll find a piece of who we are in all that we do and we hope to make you feel like family on every trip in to see us.

"In an increasingly corporate industry, we are proud to serve our community as a family-owned and operated establishment. We work hard to honor our place, purpose, and people in all that we do, and welcome you to come experience our labor of love over great wine with great friends."

Our Sister Location
Riverside Vines

As business and production expanded, we made a pivotal decision to increase our vineyard acreage rather than outsource the majority of our grapes—a true vine to glass operation with a stop in the cellar in between.

That meant finding a new destination to put down roots, and as luck would have it, we stumbled across a serene 170 acre farm located just south of Ashton Creek that boasted waterfront views of Lake Chesdin and space for bountiful harvests. Now warmly known as Riverside Vines, our working farm & vineyard offers seasonal Tasting Room hours, year-round private event availability, and periodic special events.

Our Vineyard Dogs

Beloved family pets turned farm pups, Willie, Bailey, and Waylon are the heart of our vineyard and can often be found sunbathing on the patio or moseying around through the vines. We strive to be a friend to people and furry friends alike by working closely with and donating a percentage of each bottle sold of Willie's White, Bailey's Bold, and Side Way's to animal shelters local to the Richmond area.
